Can children use a 360 video booth? Ages, families and mixed groups

There is no minimum or maximum age for the V360 booth. If a tall adult is with a small child, the adult may need to hold the child so both stay in frame and the child stays safe.

There is no formal minimum or maximum age for the V360 Video Booth and an adult and a child can be in the same video. If a tall adult is with a small child, the adult may need to hold the child so both stay in frame because of the height difference. Holding also keeps a small child safely on the platform while the camera rotates around the group. Adults are not picked up.

Is there an age limit?

No. There is no formal minimum age and no maximum age. Guests of every age can step onto the platform. On the night the question that matters is how each guest is positioned so they are safe and in shot. The operator guides every group onto the platform, positions them and explains how to get the best videos before the take. That applies to a grandparent, a teenager or a toddler in exactly the same way.

Why a small child may need to be held

A small child standing next to a tall adult has two problems on a 360 booth.

  • Frame. The camera frames the top half of the body. A short child next to a tall adult can sit below the shot. The adult holding the child brings them up beside their own face so both are in the video.
  • Safety. Small children get excited and can run off the platform while the camera arm is turning. Being held keeps them on the platform for the whole take.

So when a tall adult is with a small child, the adult may need to hold the child rather than leave them to run off the platform. The result is a better video and a safer take.

Adults are not picked up

Holding is for small children only. Adults are not picked up. Adults stand on the platform where the operator positions them and the camera is positioned for every person, so a taller or shorter adult does not need lifting to be in frame.

Mixed heights in one group

Families and friendship groups come in every height. The operator positions the group so everyone is in frame and positions the camera for every person. Ring lights and the room lighting are used so each face is well lit. Because the camera frames the top half of the body, getting heads and shoulders at a similar level is what makes a mixed group work and that is exactly what the operator sets up.

The small booth holds up to 2 people at a time and the large booth holds up to 4, so a parent and child fit on either and a bigger family group suits the large booth. Booth sizes are set out in small or large 360 video booth.

Keeping children safe around the booth

The arm needs about half a metre around the booth to rotate safely and the booth is cordoned with stanchions so people who are waiting or watching stay at a safe distance while it turns. That matters most when children are at the event, because the cordon keeps curious little ones back from the moving arm until it is their turn. The operator brings each group in through the cordon and helps them down afterwards.

The booth also needs a solid even floor, which helps everyone feel steady on and off the platform. The team agrees the space with the venue about a fortnight before the event.

Props, slow motion and the sharing station

The movement and the props make the booth easy for younger guests to enjoy. Props are included. Every event gets a standard set of high-quality props plus themed props and for birthdays that means themed headbands, glasses and celebratory props. The operator sets them out on V360's prop table. The operator hypes every group up to dance, look for the camera and pose. Each clip is 26 seconds long and plays at normal speed, then in slow motion and then in reverse, ready to watch at the sharing station.

Parents can download the clip there and then by AirDrop, a QR code, SMS or email. The guest's phone is not used to record. About 12 hours after the booking ends the client is emailed a web gallery of every video plus a Google Drive folder for a bulk download. Both stay available for six months, so a video of a child with grandparents is never lost in the rush of the night.
